BIOGRAPHY / RESUME

VR by Genie Davis.jpg

Vojislav Radovanović is a Serbian visual artist, independent curator, producer, and videographer based in Los Angeles County, California. Born in Valjevo, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia) in 1982, he witnessed the turbulent political unrest and war in the Balkan region during his youth. This experience influenced his visual and conceptual artwork, which advocates for beauty, environmentalism, mental health, societal transmutation, and decolonization. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2017.

Radovanović's artwork often features wild plants, specifically weeds, which he uses as a metaphor for nature's powerful ingenuity. The symbolism of weeds also apply to multiple human aspects, including endurance, LGBTQIA+ identity, the immigrant experience.

Since his first solo exhibition at the National Museum of Valjevo at age fifteen, Radovanović has presented his works internationally in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Notable cultural institutions where he has exhibited include Lancaster Museum of Art and History, Bakersfield Museum of Art, Torrance Art Museum, Angels Gate Cultural Center, Diana Berger Gallery, Brea Art Gallery, Huntington Beach Art Center, California, USA; Mall Galleries in London, UK; UNESCO Headquarters, The Swedish Institute in Paris, France; Centre of Contemporary Art in Torun, Poland; The Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid - CBA in Madrid, Spain; Belgrade City Museum, and Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, Serbia. Radovanović also served as a fellow artist-in-residence at MOAH Lancaster, contributing to the local community through the Artists At Work program, generously supported by the Mellon Foundation.

Radovanović, along with his partner, artist Jason Jenn, co-founded L.A. Art Documents, an online video archive dedicated to the contemporary art scene in Los Angeles and beyond. Radovanović is represented by the Walter Maciel Gallery in Los Angeles.
